Desire is a strange, fickle thing, is it not?

Be without it, and you can appear but a shell of an individual. To be completely without desire would be devoid of the ability to care for anything or anyone.

Yet, it is a thin rope, is it not?

It takes so very little to step the wrong way. The ability to lure someone the wrong way is laughably simple.

It is a ... troublesome emotion.

It is a pretty big part of what keeps us alive though. Even if we have a bad habit of wanting exactly what is worst for us.

There's a sort of thrill from balancing acts on thin ropes, or being bound and trapped seeking escape.

It may be true that desire can be one of the greatest tools of the darkness...

... But without it, the world would not advance. For it is desiring of better things - all sorts of things - that motivates people to act, to invent, to improve.

That is the trouble, in the end. One must take good with bad in measure - not just there, either.

Without context, of course, it is hard to understand what you mean by desire being troublesome... But I shan't bother you for that, unless you care to share.
